May the show commence…

I’ve just finished my senior thesis animation, and it feels amazing. The exhibition is up from Friday, May 16 to Monday, May 19. I still have to make the curtain and collage my concept art, but the really time consuming, hard part (the film) is done! I understand now just how much effort and time it takes now. I’d done cute, short things before in 3D and stop-motion cutouts, but 2D hand drawn is a whole other headache!

Doing “Ghosts at Play” was at least fun for me. I didn’t mind cutting out 80 something of those figures, but having to draw frame after frame for my thesis was tedious and agony. I have so much respect for those animators that worked pre-computer age. Seriously…

Anyway, I’ll post some pictures of the exhibition set-up and barbeque tomorrow :3

All Nighters

So, I’ve been up for about 18 hours straight. Most of that has been working on my thesis project, though a good deal was dance practice and playing a bit of soccer with friends. Surprisingly, I’m not that tired, just feeling crummy. I wore flip-flops to the field and played barefoot on cold astroturf. Now my nose is a little runny and my throat itchy. Bad news…and the caffeine dosage I drank is not helping.

Anyway, Petunia (my thesis character for those who don’t know) is coming along well. I’m almost half way finished with the entire film, but it will still take a lot of work to make it shine just right. Finally relaxing about the entire thing and just going for it has helped me find enjoyment in the project. I think my anxiety and stress was really holding back the creative flow that I needed, so I’m glad to take a breather now and just animate. This scripture in John 14:1 was actually what helped me relax: “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God and in me.”

Dancing with Cats

This is actually a real book I found while searching for random cat pictures. It’s slightly upsetting that someone wasted trees to print stuff like this, but mildly entertaining also. My favorite image from the previews I saw was of this old man:

Lovely, right? I have a hard time believing cats would actually humiliate themselves without some pricey compensation, so i’m sure this cat got a nice tuna fish dinner for his/her trouble.

Anyway, I’m wrapping up my final projects for the semester along with thesis. I’ll try to snap a picture of my plastic bag patchwork textile before it goes to the recycling bin.

Thesis progress: 40% (give or take…)
